Liotru”, 'elephant' in the  dialect of Catania), Etnei (Etneans - People of Mount Etna,
the active volcano that dominates the landscape of Catania).
HISTORY: Before the actual foundation of the club, the city was represented by                                     'Associazione Sportiva pro Educazione Fisica' (founded in 1908), which five                                     months later created the football section under the name 'Pro Patria'. In 1910                                     'Pro Patria' became independent as 'Unione Sportiva Catanese'. In the 1920's, after WWI, 'Associazione Sportiva pro Educazione Fisica' changed its name to 'Juventus Catania Football Club' and 'Pro Patria' to 'Unione Sportiva Catanese'. In 1929 both clubs were dissolved in favour of the creation of a new club, founded on the 27 June as 'Società Sportiva Catania'. In 1936 the name was changed to 'Associazione Fascista Calcio Catania'. During WWII the club was dissolved but was re-founded on the 24 September 1946 as 'Club Calcio Catania' through the merger of 'Società Sportiva Virtus Catania' (founded in 1944) and 'Unione Sportiva Catanese Elefante' (founded in 1945). In 1967 the name was changed to 'Calcio Catania', but in December 2021 the club was declared bankrupt but immediately re-founded in 2022 as 'Catania Società Sportiva Dilettantistica'. A year later, in 2023, the name was changed to the current one.

HISTORY: Founded on the 18 November 1912 as 'Società Sportiva Fortitudo' by                                     ex members of 'Societa Sportiva Cosentina' (founded in March 1912). The name was changed in 1933 to 'Associazione Sportiva Cosenza', but in 1982 the club went bankrupt but was re-founded immediately as 'Cosenza Calcio 1914'. The club was banned from playing professional football in 2003 due to administrative wrong doing and thus a new club was established, the 'Associazione Sportiva Cosenza Football Club'. The ban on 'Cosenza Calcio 1914' was lifted in 2004, but the club was declared bankrupt in 2005, and thus the new club took over all its rights and was renamed 'Associazione Sportiva Cosenza Calcio'. However, in 2007 the club was also declared bankrupt and all its rights were taken over by the club 'Rende Calcio 1968' (founded in 1968) who changed its name to 'Fortitudo Cosenza', a name that was changed a year later to the old 'Cosenza Calcio 1914'. In 2011 the club was again banned from playing in professional football leagues and thus a new club was founded to take over the club rights, the 'Nuova Cosenza Calcio', a name that was changed to the current 'Cosenza Calcio' in 2014.

a fortified city on high ground)

(Citadel - In the Veneto dialect).
HISTORY: Founded on the 21 June 1973 as 'Associazione  Sportiva Cittadella'                                 with the merger of 'Unione Sportiva Cittadellese' (founded in 1920) and 'Olympia                                 Cittadella' (founded in 1948) in view of the fact that both clubs had big financial problems and were on the verge of being declared bankrupt. At first the merger created a lot of problems between the supporters, mainly due to the fact that the 'Cittadellese' had a hard-core Communist support base and the 'Olympia' had a hard-core Christian support base. In 2000 the name was changed to ' Associazione Sportiva Cittadella Padova' when they started to play in the capital of the Veneto Province Padova, whose football club was passing through a very difficult period. But in 2004 they returned to play home in Cittadella and thus the name was changed back to the old 'Associazione Sportiva Cittadella', the current name.
